Risk factors for ALL

  • Depending on the risk factors for ALL that patients have, they can be classified as being at:
  • Standard-risk (good outcome): Patients have no risk factors
  • High-risk (poor outcome): Patients who have one or more of the following risk factors:
  • Age 50 or older
  • Male gender
  • High white blood cell count >30×109cells/L for B-cell ALL and >100×109cells for T-cell ALL
  • CNS disease at diagnosis
  • Genetic abnormalities (see in Table 2 in What causes ALL?)
